![]() ![]() Then pandoc in Zettlr does the magic for me to weave into LaTeX or docx as the case may be. I do not always copy and paste from the zettels (sometimes I do), instead, I read through the zettels bringing up another Zettlr tab and write the paper there using summary and paraphrasing. I could have done that in Obsidian but when it comes to academic writing, Zettlr beats Obsidian (it has neat Zotero support, you can use mermaid diagrams, and all that). ![]() This brings up the list of zettels that contain the tags that I want to combine. Then, when I am in the process of writing a paper, I fire up Zettlr, and search in Zettlr on the tags. With that setup, all I have to do is to write everything in Obsidian as Obsidian is hard to beat when it comes to ease of use, split screen, nice UI, that kind of thing, so short notes are easily done in Obsidian. Hi u/Luis_McLovin, I have a shared folder in Dropbox ~/Dropbox/zettlr where I keep all my zettels in markdown format and using filenames as yyyymmddhhmm, so my zettels are single topic (usually with a question), id-ed (yyyymmddhhmm), heavily tagged (#tags), with a source that directly links to my Zotero reference id and all other sources I can think and heavily backlinked to any relevant note I can find in my zettelkasten folder (and I have only ONE zettelkasten folder with hundreds of notes that I access from everywhere). : Added cell regarding timed dark mode activation : Updated cell regarding display of Markdown vs. Zettlr allows adding color labels to tags (I personally wouldn't rely on this too much, as the color information is stored within Zettlr itself → Not portable) #foo_bar, Obsidian will only recognize #foo as a tag (might be a bug) Highlight position of search results in scrollbar When hovering over a link, a popup preview of the target file is shown Alignment of regular markdown text is as in plaintext file for theme "Bielefeld" (because it uses monospace font), while "Berlin" distorts alignment. Update : This depends on the theme used in Zettlr. Obsidian seems to distort alignments (e.g., this table I did in Zettlr, but in Obsidian the alignment of the columns was broken does obviously not affect preview rendering of the table). Markdown content exactly as plaintext file ![]() Obsidian supports split views, i.e., having multiple files visible at the same time I.e., when file content is changed externally In Obisidan, the ID is only generated when creating the note, and is used as its filename In Zettlr, you can insert an ID at any point in the file. While typing the name of the target file, you can skip letters and the best matches are shown automaticallyĬreate new file when link target does not exist The ID doesn't have to be in the file name, it can also be inside the file itself (useful for Zettelkasten, see below)įuzzy search complete when creating links Zettlr kind of supports this by showing linking files in the search results As both tools have many things in common, I decided to list in the table below features/aspects that are currently exclusive to one or the other.įeel free to give me your feedback, and add your findings in the comments as well! Feature ![]() Since with Obsidian a new competitor entered the "battlefield" of Writing/Notetaking/Zettelkasten software, I felt like comparing Obsidian with Zettlr. ![]()
